with the idea of artist books, artwork in this exhibition express a new mindset. the artists asked questions: what is 'publication,' 'distribution,' or 'archive'? le hien minh's 'hạt' are made from vietnamese traditional dó paper, crumpled into shriveled little balls and cast in resin, each object sealed within its own small display stand. in the room next door, cam xanh unsettles christian history by playing with form and language in her installation 'tim' (the vietnamese word for 'heart'). these two artists' altars are atypical as they are not about reverence but liberation from the revered. a review by quyen nguyen.
