participant artists:
Ton Nu Van Anh (Bo) (Vietnam) Bo is a photographer and digital artist based in HCMC. Her work depicts street life, buildings and human subjects with a focus on how they interact with or inhabit their modern environment. She seeks to express a more futuristic and hyper-graphic reality or turn it into shapes with hard edges, colors and reconstructions of the subject through the camera and brushes. Bo is A. Farm Season 4 resident.
Espen Iden (Norway) Espen Iden is an Oslo-based multidisciplinary artist who’s had a go at most creative outlets. This is reflected in his DJ style inspired by 1970s loft parties, southern rap and techno. Espen is A. Farm Season 4 resident.
Markus Heinsdorff (Germany) Markus Heinsdorff is a German installation artist working in the areas of design, architecture and photography. Nature and space are Markus Heinsdorff’s central themes. In exploring the cultural and spatial conditions of the various countries in which he works, he often draws on local materials and working methods. This has resulted in projects, installations and exhibitions in India, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Ecuador, Brazil, the USA, South Africa, Zanzibar and numerous European countries. Prominent examples are the numerous pavilion constructions that were realized as art structures and mobile spaces for the presentation of Germany in China (2007-2010) and India (2012-2013) and toured five megacities in each country. The German-Chinese House, a 300 m², two-storey building made of bamboo at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, was also realized in this context.
Bert Ackley (USA) Bert Ackley is a visual artist and amateur archivist based in Ho Chi Minh City. He created and currently runs the Vinatapes project, which is an archive of dated Vietnamese media, focusing on home videos recorded on analogue camcorders. He prepares his visual work using media and gear found at junk markets and uses CRT TVs and a 1990s video mixer to provide a base for various types of feedback effects combined with different input sources. Bert is A. Farm Season 4 resident.
Khanh Phuc (Vietnam) Nguyen Khanh Phuc, also known as Kapu, is a Ho Chi Minh City-based multidisciplinary artist. Through the use of high-end technological advances and digitized visual representations, he wants to express his interest in dealing with to-be-forgotten and denied memory material to return a certain vague interaction with those irretrievable losses. Interactive light installations and interactive performances are frequently featured in his works.
The Goethe-Institut Ho Chi Minh City joins A. Farm as a funding and managing partner starting from 2023.
