I am an artist from Alaska. I have been living in Ho Chi Minh City since 2018. I primarily make paintings but love to experiment: video, text-based work, photography, digital art. I have a familiarity with the local scene and a lot of life experience in this city.
I have been working at MoT+++ for the past year, managing the residency and other programs. I look forward to sharing this place with you!
about the space
I welcome you to my glorious space, A-lát-xca studio, of which I am very proud. This is a stilt house, constructed over the river's edge. Water hyacinth floats by, the river level rises and falls throughout the day, herons and kingfishers flop around.
I have been working here for 3 years and in the past year expanded the space to include an attached apartment. This space is a great place from which to deploy my little motorboat and to explore the various winding waterways that weave throughout the urban area. Also a great place to catch a catfish or watch the sunset.
I have found the space to be immensely productive and have produced many great works here. It is a space where you don't have to worry about making a mess with paint and things dry quickly with all the moving air.
The studio is open air, with a bar and many couches for your use. I invite you to lounge around and enjoy the tropical splendor of my unique space. The view is panoramic, looking westward with trees and nature surrounding.
This space is one I have developed over time but unfortunately at some point in the future it will be demolished to make way for riverside stability projects. So while it won't be available forever, it is here now and it is alive!
If we are paired, I will happily take you out on boat excursions several times a week. There is little I enjoy more than floating around and gazing at the rich, high-resolution shores.
The accommodation side is simple and rustic, perfect for the adventurous. With so much open space and the natural cooling effect of the river, heat is manageable. I offer private space and your choice of two rooms.
The area is very charming and local, two minutes walk from Fatima Church, a big pink cathedral. If desired, there is a city bus 5 minutes walking from here and it takes you south, directly into the city center.
collaboration
I am very open and looking for excuses to expand my practice. I hope we can come up with whatever it is we are bound to create by way of divine inspiration. I look forward to the challenge and am ready to adapt to the moment and to combine forces towards ultimate art, something neither of us could make alone. I hope we can devote the necessary time and attention to make something overwhelming and good; for the sake of mankind and future generations!
